The handover of Hong Kong from British to Chinese sovereignty in 1997 marked a pivotal moment in the city's history, promising a "one country, two systems" framework that would preserve its freedoms and unique identity for fifty years. Yet, as the years passed, the rule of law and the very essence of freedom in Hong Kong have gradually faded. The vibrant legal promises, including the assurance of fifty years of unchanged governance, as enshrined in Deng Xiaoping's theory, have now become distant echoes, a fading reminder of the past.

This transformation echoes a silent tragedy, leaving us to reflect on the significance of the handover's promises and the gradual erosion of freedom that has occurred. It reminds us that Hong Kong's unique political and cultural identity, once a beacon of hope, is now entangled in the complex web of geopolitics, leaving observers to ponder the uncertain fate of this dynamic city on the global stage.
